Our friendly village shop and Post Office was built as a Chapel in 1855 and was used by the Home Guard in WWII. It was then converted to a shop by the Hughes family in the mid 1950’s. It was taken over by the current owners Lloyd and Samantha in October 2009.
It is situated on the edge of Cheshire, on the Welsh border. Approximately 4 miles south of Chester city centre in the village of Dodleston.
As well as the Shop & Post Office, we have the Red Lion Pub, St Marys Church, St Marys C of E Primary School and a Pre School and Toddlers group in our Village Hall.
The Village Hall is home to lots of other activities including Brownies, fitness and Yoga classes and the monthly meetings of Dodleston & District WI.
We are also just a mile or so from Chester Lakes.
Our aim is to be the Village shop with a difference. Our community, the Parish of Dodleston is the backbone of our shop.
The community is so important to us, and we eagerly offer our support throughout the year, especially during the pandemic when we have been making home deliveries or arranging pickups for vulnerable or isolating members of the community.
We also support our local businesses by stocking their products with fresh fruit & veg ordered on a daily basis.
We have various charity collection tins on our counter.
With the increased use of card payments during the pandemic, charities have suffered.
A few of the charities we regularly donate to are Blood Bikers, Hospice of the Good Shepherd, the Samaritans, Neuro Therapy Centre, RNIB, Dorin Park.
